Ray Lee: Invisible Forces
Broadcast on January 12 at 5:00 am EDT
Ray Lee
DURATION 35 min.
Ray Lee is an artist, composer and performer. Over the past twenty years he has made work that includes performance, installation, composition and photography. Ray Lee’s work investigates his fascination with the hidden world of electro-magnetic radiation and in particular how sound can be used as evidence of invisible phenomena. He is interested in the way that science and philosophy represent the universe and his work questions the orthodoxies that emerge and submerge according to the currently fashionable trends. He creates spinning, whirling and pendulous sound installations that explore ‘circles of ether’, the invisible forces that surround us. He lectures in Contemporary Arts and Music at Oxford Brookes University. In the 1990’s Ray Lee’s company ‘Lee and Dawes’ with associate Harry Dawes produced award-winning and innovative music-theatre which toured nationally and internationally. In 1996 they won the prestigious Barclay’s New Stages Award for experimental theatre for their piece ‘In the Ether’. Ray Lee’s piece ‘Swing’ was also featured at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. More information at www.invisible-forces.com.
