Today marks the beginning of Gender Moves, a four week series of workshops exploring movement and gender with Janet Brodie and Irwin Krieger. Come out and move with this fantastic duo as they use techniques drawn from the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange toolbox to delve into issues of gender, develop simple movements related to those ideas, and collaborate to create dances based on the ideas and movements. All are welcome – If you can move, you can dance! It is not necessary to attend all four sessions.
Wednesdays October 21- November 11
6pm-7:45pm
United Church Parish House
323 Temple Street, New Haven
(Free parking at Yale lot across the street)
Move through stereotypes, old ideas, new ideas about gender and how they are reflected in the ways we move. No dance experience needed. Each workshop will include warm-ups, improvisation and creating short “dances”. Pictures, shoes, costumes, ballroom dancing- any and all of these may be part of the explorations.
Janet Brodie and Irwin Krieger have lived in New Haven, improvised and worked as psychotherapists for many years. After working with the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, they were “moved” to create this workshop.
