A creative approach to a healthier New Haven

Where else but the International Festival of Arts & Ideas could you find a sculpture of cows decorated with "Milagros" - copper images that symbolize prayers for health, a wall of Post-it notes encouraging you to share "secrets, promises, hopes and fears," Tibetan-inspired prayer flags, mother-child fitness classes and a healthy cooking demonstration? Community Interventions for Health, a new citywide effort to promote health and prevent disease in New Haven, brought together many of the cities' finest organizations to launch its program at the Festival during Village of Villages weekend....

Thank you all for being with us over the past two weeks and for filling this Festival with tremendous energy and joy. You, our audience and friends, made it a great Festival by being curious, engaged and intrepid.

During what was perceived to be a rainy period in an economic downturn, we had a record number of people visiting this website and attending our free events on the New Haven Green, capacity audiences at Ideas events and tours, and the Festival’s ticketed events exceeded the sales figures from the past two years. We really can't ask for more.

Jason Steigerwalt To Sing The Role Of "Sailor" At "Dido & Aeneas"

At an audition in New Haven on Tuesday, Mark Morris selected Jason Steigerwalt, a member of the chorus directed by Bradley Naylor, to sing the role of the "Sailor" during the performances of Dido & Aeneas tonight and Friday. The other featured singers are sopranos Leena Chopra and Yulia van Doren,mezzo-soprano Katherine Growdon, and baritone Thomas Meglioranza.
