PechaKucha, in which performers tell a story on a subject of their choosing in a unique presentational format, began in Tokyo in 2003, and has captured the imagination of storytellers and audiences throughout the world. The heart of a PechaKucha New Haven night is community + creativity, and everyone has a little of that. The format of a PechaKucha talk is simple. A speaker has 20 slides. 20 slides that automatically advance every 20 seconds while they talk or sing or, even dance. They might reveal the secrets of the meaning of life. They might explain how an outdated combine harvester works. Sometimes perplexing, sometimes a tear-jerker, sometimes hilarious, never boring. Or, if it is, the next speaker is just a few minutes away and will share their words and images about their ideas, their work, their poetry, their research, their designs, their vacation, or their passion.
