The International Festival of Arts & Ideas and Yale-China Association Fellowships are a 6-month experience for emerging professional Hong Kong artists and arts activators. Fellows spend six months in residence in New Haven learning from and collaborating with practicing artists, educators, and arts administrators both at Yale and within the greater New Haven community, while developing a project of their own. The Festival is hosting a series of conversations with fellows to get an inside look at these projects. During these conversations, the fellows will go into depth about their creative processes as well as give a preview of what each project entails.
These programs are made possible through special partnerships with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York (HKETONY), the Council on East Asian Studies (CEAS), and the Yale School of Drama.
The Yale-China Arts Fellowships are exceptional opportunities for Hong Kong-based artists and art curators and managers to engage with and learn from the many resources and people of Yale University and New Haven. Fellows have the opportunity to not only curate and practice different art forms in New Haven but collaborate with people of all ages and walks of life as they strengthen their global networks. They are ambassadors for Hong Kong culture and arts as they create projects and art that showcases the depth and talent of Hong Kong while including specialties from the local New Haven culture. By integrating Hong Kong culture into American culture, Fellows create projects that are a unique blend that allows everyone involved to experience something different and fun. All Fellows share their projects at the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in June at the end of their Fellowship.
In this global filmmaking program, students age 13 through 18 from New Haven and Hong Kong have been simultaneously documenting their social distancing experiences through film.
Comprised of a film and an Internet art piece, Her Trajectory confronts the dominant macro-narrative of history that undermines individuals’ experiences and tends to omit women’s voices.
Hong Kong artist Chi-Yung WONG will talk about his exploration of the relationship between anxiety, introspection and mindfulness practices.
