Exploring Chinese Art Song with Noah Fang

FREE. Noah Fang is an ethnomusicologist who studies traditional Chinese musical forms and is a musician himself. A 2022 Yale-China Arts Fellow at the Festival, Fang with mezzo soprano Ying Li will present a lecture-recital that illustrates the rich cultural history of Chinese Art Song.
Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Sower: An Opera by Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon

This fully staged opera created by Toshi Reagan in collaboration with her mother, Bernice Johnson Reagon, brings together more than 30 original anthems drawn from 200 years of black music to recreate Butler’s sci-fi, Afrofuturist masterpiece.

The piece is a kaleidoscopic reflection on isolation and longing, about breaking apart and breaking free, the nature of connection and the importance of community.
