South African Traditional and Pantsula Dance, Live From South Africa

Portia Ncwane will be conducting a two-part class focusing on the culture of South Africa specifically the Zulu Tribe through traditional Zulu dancing and music. Dancing is usually performed during a traditional Zulu ceremony accompanied by vibrant singing and the beating of drums and clapping. The second part of the class will focus on Kwaito & Gqom Dance which is a form of self-expression and a way of life it is the way many South Africans dress, speak and dance. It is a street style as lifestyle, where the music reflects life in the townships.

 

 

Portia Ncwane

Portia Ncwane is from South Africa in the city of Durban. She's currently studying Marketing & Entrepreneurship at Oxbridge Academy in Capetown She's a Philanthropist, performing artist who's an actress & Dance Choreographer who has made appearances on South Africa's television shows including Imbewu The seed, Uzalo Sabc1, and featured on a film called Love Lives Here she's also the founder & Executive Director Who runs a non profit Arts organisation called the Portia Ncwane Foundation that focuses on youth empowerment, cultivating Economic Prosperity through Women’s Entrepreneurship using the art working towards preserving the south african culture to ensure social cohesion and Nation building. She has been conducting art camps & leadership programs in local schools dis-advantaged schools training Learners in various South African cultures and life skills ,she's also donated over 1000 school uniforms to needy children in different schools of KwaZulu-Natal , she's travelled the world in Spain Portugal, Italy and the United States of America in NewYork city representing South Africa at various Dance and music folklore festivals. . She's currently an alumni for one of the prestigious leadership programs supported by the state department and irex "Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders 2019 where she was based at the University of Delaware in Newark under civic engagement, where she followed up by a presidential summit in Washington DC. She's also an Alumni for the American Art Incubator: South Africa 2019. She was recently acknowledged by Cell C South Africa for the work she did with Take a Girl Child to work Day 2019
