The Calder Quartet Featured In Los Angeles Times

At the 2006 International Festival of Arts & Ideas, the Calder Quartet (named after the great American visual artist Alexander Calder) payed homage to Shostakovich with a piece by Pulitzer Prize winning American composer Christopher Rouse - his String Quartet No. 2. The quartet also performed works by Beethoven and Shostakovich in Sprague Memorial Hall at Yale University as part of the Festival.

Festival To Participate In New Haven's Second Annual "Tent City"

The City of New Haven will hold their second annual "Tent City" community fundraiser on November 19 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Green, in order to address homelessness and to keep the overflow shelter open during the winter. Tent City began in 2008, and it is the hope of the City to promote the same spirit of community this year while raising awareness of homelessness issues.

In this challenging economy, homeless funding is limited. Without appropriate resources, more than 100 people in New Haven could be out in the cold this winter. The staff of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas...

"Gender Moves" Workshops with Janet Brodie and Irwin Krieger to Explore Movement and Gender

Today marks the beginning of Gender Moves, a four week series of workshops exploring movement and gender with Janet Brodie and Irwin Krieger. Come out and move with this fantastic duo as they use techniques drawn from the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange toolbox to delve into issues of gender, develop simple movements related to those ideas, and collaborate to create dances based on the ideas and movements. All are welcome – If you can move, you can dance! It is not necessary to attend all four sessions.

New York Premiere of "The Pride of Parnell Street"

The Festival has just added a new benefit for all 2009 Members: a 30% discount on tickets to "The Pride of Parnell Street", September 1-6 at 59E59 Theaters. The production runs through October 4 as part of 1st Irish 2009, a festival of Irish theatre across New York. This is the New York premiere of the internationally acclaimed original production by Fishamble: The New Play Company.
